Spleen 5, Abbreviated as SP 5, Transliterated Shangqiu in Chinese, Metal Mound in English.

SP 5 Acupuncture Point Location:

On the depression distal and inferior to the medial malleolus, midpoint between the tuberosity of the navicular bone and the tip of the medial malleolus.

SP 5 Acupuncture Point Indications:

  • Pain in the foot and ankle
  • Hemorrhoids
  • Abdominal distention and pain, diarrhea, constipation

SP 5 Acupuncture Point Benefits:

Strengthens the Spleen and Stomach, resolves dampness.

Classification: 

Jing-River point of the Spleen Meridian.

Notes: 

Jing-River points are where the qi of the meridian begins to flow more heavily. They are known to treat cough and asthma due to pathogenic cold or heat.
